This guide explains, step by step, how to remove rivets and replace a spare part safely and efficiently, without damaging other components. Before any repair, it is essential to understand and follow the proper method for removing a rivet.

If the installation seems complex, it is recommended to consult a professional workshop.

A basic level of repair knowledge and proper tool handling are required. Before starting, make sure you are working in a clear, well-lit workspace. Safety must always be your top priority.

A) List of Required Tools and Materials

  • -Electric or cordless drill

  • -1/4" in. drill bit

  • -Loop pliers or multi-grip pliers

  • - Riveter or Phillips screwdriver for final assembly

  • -Visual clamp

  • -Fine file or sandpaper

  • -Exacto & Scissors

  • -Protective glasses to prevent metal splashes

  • -Sturdy work gloves

  • -Cutting lubricant

  • -Clean cloth

  • -Stable work surface

  • -Garbage can

B) Removal of existing rivets

You must have a basic level of knowledge in repair work and tool usage. Before you begin, make sure you are working in a clear, well-lit area; safety is paramount.

  • Work in a stable, clean, and well-lit space.

  • Firmly support the snowshoe on a protected surface.

  • Lubricate inside the rivet hole before drilling.

  • Secure the washer from underneath (or top and bottom) with locking pliers to prevent rotation — see illustrations.

  • Drill the rivet through the center of the rivet head at low speed with steady pressure: the washer must never rotate.

  • Remove the pin and washer once the rivet head has been drilled off.

  • Check that the pivot strap is not damaged.

C) Professional (qualitative) advice

  • Stability: it's best to have one hand on the drill and a good grip on the pliers.

  • Check: if the rivet starts to turn, stop, tighten the vise grips, then resume.

  • Final cleanup: remove metal shavings before continuing the installation of the new parts

D) Last important step — Final assembly of the parts

1️⃣ Start by carefully removing the binding and crampon from your snowshoe.

Handle each part carefully to avoid damaging the pivot.

2️⃣ Using a sharp X-Acto knife, carefully remove the anti-slip layer located on top of the fastener (harness).

Using a good, sturdy pair of scissors, cut out the anti-slip plate located under the harness from the old harness.

3️⃣ Assembling the components

Once the four components are perfectly aligned and stacked — the foot plate, metal crampons, and bottom plate — place the complete assembly onto the existing toe cord. Secure everything carefully and firmly using new rivets or new bolts with washers and self-locking nuts, depending on the desired style or level of robustness.

Important: Always place the new washers on top of the harness and the original (larger) washers underneath the snowshoe, if applicable.

Important: Do not overtighten, as this may crush or weaken the harness materials.

Please note: for models with 5 anchor points, the fifth rivet at the bottom will no longer be used due to the configuration of the new Simard Sport bindings. You can install them with confidence by following our installation guide.

Final configurations
These three ATLAS configurations represent the possible mounting options depending on the type of fastener and toe cable. In each case, ensure that all nuts and bolts are securely tightened, without crushing or damaging the materials, to guarantee a safe, durable installation that meets the intended use.
